Week in Review: Short Weeks, Dinners Out and The Maggies Take Franciscan

What a great week!

We had Tuesday off for Veteran's Day (we love our Grandpa and Gramps veterans) and I took Monday off because Xander and Brendan had physicals and then Declan and Brendan had a SAL day (stay at home school day).  Going back to work knowing it was already Wednesday, well that's what working-mom-dreams are made of.

Homeschoolers R Us (when the school makes us)

The boys physicals were great except they both need to see a dermatologist.  Xander for an unusual mole and Brendan for the years-long rash he has on his feet and hands that we have been to the derm for many times, but this time we are seeing a pediatric derm per the advice of my sister, so I hope we can finally figure it out.  On Tuesday, I went to the dentist with Xander and Declan and they both had good reports but I have another cavity in the same tooth where I already have had three fillings previously.  I asked if we should just pull the tooth at this point but the dentist wants to keep patching it up for as long as possible.  I hope that's in my best interest and not a money grab.

Thank You Veterans!

While we were at the dentist, Phil and Brendan watched the Veteran's Day parade with Grandpa and Phil did some research to figure out the best plan of attack for my parents to get free meals that day.  I think Grandpa ended up getting a free lunch at one restaurant, a voucher for a free meal at another restaurant, and a half priced dinner takeout from a third restaurant.  Not too shabby!

Lucy Doodle got her hairs cut and a festive paper hat made by Brendan.

The things I put up with.

On Wednesday, a new restaurant opened in the city next to us, so Phil and I checked it out while Brendan had swim team practice right nearby.

The Mexican food was really good, seemed authentic (I went to Mexico once in 5th grade so what do I know) and we will be returning!  Our waiter was a former student of Phil's (they're everywhere after having taught for 22 years) and we had to laugh because we got the smallest table in the worst spot in the place (always happens to us).

We went to another restaurant with a friend this weekend and we ordered a Pretzel Charcuterie for an appetizer and I could have made it my whole meal.  There was a cheese spread, mustard, grapes, dried apricots, candied walnuts and salami arranged inside a huge soft pretzel.  Chef's kiss!

But the biggest news of the week(end) was that our Maggie and her bestie Maggie flew out to visit Franciscan together.  They have both applied for next year and our Maggie is already committed.  Andrew picked them up from the airport, where they had a stinky "smells like BO" flight:

The Maggies stayed at Andrew's friend's house off campus and fell in love with the girls:

Maggie documented Eamon eating fruit for the first time since he left home ;)

He's lucky he's cute.

They also met Eamon's friends (guys pictured) and later the girls (not pictured) and said they were all really nice and welcoming.

They went to "Andrew's soccer game" even though he is a manager, not a player.  Andrew is currently in Virginia with the team for a soccer tournament, which he was very excited about.

That cutie face

And they posed for pictures at The Port, where Phil proposed to me in 2001:

To think that these three will all be in college together next year makes my heart so happy!  I can remember counting out the years when they were little and realizing they would all be in high school for a year together, and I can't believe we're now almost at the college part.

Full Hands

Full Heart

Oh if you're dying to know the status of the three-week chess game...it's finally over.  As is this post :)
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. How about a crown/cap in that tooth instead of another filling? I have several, after my childhood fillings started giving up the ghost. I know modern dentistry tries to keep the natural teeth in place as long as sensible.
Glad the Maggie's enjoyed the trip to Franciscan. Have a glorious weekend!

    1. I am a certified queen at this point with how many crowns I have, but I guess this tooth can't handle a crown because of the deep pocket behind it (where I had my wisdom tooth removed). I should write a post about all of the oral surgeries and work I've had done. Just bring on the dentures!

    1. One of the best gifts of motherhood is watching my children grow into friends. At times it seemed impossible, and yet it happens!!

  3. Love the photo of the three as littles and then as bigs. So cute. Is there anything worse than sitting near a smelly passenger. I'm chuckling at you and Phil always sitting in the worst spots. Love grandpa getting all the free meals. Well deserved.

  4. Hello, there my friend. The pictures of your kids are absolutely precious. I am sure it seems like yesterday they were that little. I know it does with mine. But, as much as I miss those little ones days, grown up kids are the best! Have a good weekend!
