Pope Francis Martin

Remember last week when the Kindergarten teacher dressed up my son, Eamon, as Pope Francis and he walked around to each classroom and gave his Papal Blessing?  (He came home and said the Pope Mobile wasn't ready so he had to walk to each classroom.  I told him Pope Francis would have done the same.)

Anyhoo, my awesome sister is one of the technology gurus at his school and she sent me this picture of Pope Francis in the Vatican Library:

I really hope and pray that this is a foreshadowing :)

That's What She Said

I showed Maggie this picture:

Maggie: "Who's that baby?"

Me: "It's Xander!  Isn't that a great picture of when you got to see him for the first time ever?!?!?"

Maggie: "Yes, it's good because my face looks so pretty."

Phil: "Maggie, It's {name protected}'s birthday today!"

Maggie: "How old is {name protected}?"

Phil: "{insert age}!"

Maggie: "Wow!!!!  That is REALLY OLD!!"

Phil: "Well, you shouldn't really say that someone is really old."

Maggie: "All I mean is that she is really sensitive!"

Phil: (Laughing) "You shouldn't really say that either."

Maggie: "Well I'm just saying she's gonna die soon."

Maggie: "When I grow up I want to be a chickmunk (chipmunk) so that I can take showers in the dishwasher!"

Phil (to Maggie): "Hey Cutie!"

Maggie: "You can call me Princess President the Beautiful instead."

"I want to get married and be a Dad, but I definitely don't want to kiss a girl."

Big Boy Bed

On our snow day last Friday, we decided to take down Alexander's crib and put him in a big boy bed.  He's only 19 months, but this is right around the age we made the switch with our other kids.

We do it young because we usually needed the crib for the next baby, and we find that it's not a big deal to switch them over at this age.  I've heard horror stories from parents that wait until their child is closer to 3 and does not want to transition.  

Maggie was happy to find her Cinderella phone under the crib.

Learning early how to take care of a family.

 Of course, any milestone for the baby becomes a big family event!  I told Phil to make sure he packed up the crib nice and secure because this could be the last time we ever see/need it.  Phil got really sad and said, "I really hope we need to use it again".  Love him!

And, voila!  All done.  Now he and Maggie will share the Princess room.
Sorry Xander, one day we'll have a house with more than 3 bedrooms!

That first night, we just put him in his bed and shut the door, and he went right to sleep.  It probably helped that bedtime was an hour later than usual because we went to Stations of the Cross.  But hey, I'll take it!

Now if only I could take away his thumb as easily :)

 This afternoon, we had a surprise 75th birthday party for my Mom.  Her actual birthday is in a week or so, but we totally surprised her today!

You've all heard of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, right?

Well now it's time for the Seven Degrees of Pope Francis.

That's right it is TIME!

1) 

What a crazy exciting week!

I heard about the new Pope at work when it was announced over the school's loudspeakers that THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE!

The next day, Eamon's awesome kindergarten teacher, Sr. Muriel, dressed him up as Pope Francis I and he walked around to each classroom and gave his papal blessing.

Eamon and Pope Francis have another similarity...they are both the middle children of 5 kids!

This picture is from Xander sitting on the kitchen counter singing Old MacDonald.  And you know what Old MacDonald is about?  Animals.  And you know who loved animals?  St. Francis of Assisi....who Pope Francis named himself after!

Andrew was born on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.

7) The final connection to Pope Francis is that Phil and I went to the Italy while we were in college.

We went to the Vatican (where Pope Francis will reside) and we went to Assisi (of the St. Francis fame).  Assisi holds a special place in my heart because it was where Phil finally got up the nerve to kiss me :)
