Our middle child, our only girl, graduated from 8th grade this weekend and is ready to set the world on fire.
The Baccalaureate Mass was beautiful. Maggie did the first reading and her friend Robby gave his salutatorian speech at the end, all about faith. Then the graduates walk down to the school for the last time...
Her speech was awesome. The school announces the valedictorian on Thursday night after the final grades are calculated and they have to write a speech for that Saturday! Maggie thought she might have to give the speech, so she started writing it before the announcement. Administration had no edits for her to make, and she delivered it with such poise, I was so so proud of her.
The video quality isn't great, but you can hear her speech pretty clearly, if you're interested:
Maggie was recognized for all of her hard work and service as Class President, and as a sacristan at church. She scored in the Top Ten of all 8th graders across the area who took the placement exam at our Catholic high school, and that earned her a big award too. Maggie really matured and has grown so much in her confidence and faith and intelligence thanks to this wonderful school she has attended since 1st grade. She will miss it!
Our goddaughter, Haley, was the Commencement Speaker. Haley taught this group of kids back in 3rd grade and gave a wonderful speech about being true to yourself and knowing that God made you unique and He loves you so much.
The graduates brought a rose to their mom and thanked their families, which is always so sweet.
And just like that, they are headed to high school in the fall!
