Week in Review: A Lovely 25 Years, An Eggcelent Family, and Another Snow Day

Happy Valentine's Day Lovers!

Ick. I actually hate the word lovers, it's too visual for me, ya know?

The guy who asked me to be his valentine 25 years ago has apparently not changed his mind and is taking me away on a little overnight date to celebrate.

Valentine's Dance in a ballroom in Gaming, Austria in 2000

25 years together and he's still my favorite.

I think this all the time :)

OK that's enough mush, let's look back at what happened this week.

Eamon and a cousin went snowboarding and had a blast.  His phone, however, also had a blast when it dropped out of his pocket and was run over by a car or twenty.  He was due for a new phone anyway but man that was an expensive day!

Eamon's AP Psych class has to carry around an egg (I think these assignments are so stupid and don't teach anything) but Eamon's Egg "Larry" was cute.  Apparently Larry met an exotic egg and fell in love:

Funny that we talked about chicken weddings last week and now we have an egg wedding.  Love is in the air!

And then, apropos for the Martin Family, they quickly multiplied:

I'm glad he got the shell tone right or that would have been eggstra awkward.

Larry had to travel with Eamon, but the wife and kids lived in our fridge, and it was quite disturbing to grab two eggs for breakfast and realize I had to crack two of the babies.  I mean, I did it, but I was grossed out.  I could never live on a farm.

I swear I have seven kids, but this week's post seems to be all about my 3rd born.  And they say middle children get no attention.  Pshaw!  Eamon went to the last qualifying track meet on Saturday and his 4 x 800 relay team qualified for States!

A few days later we got this announcement as well:

So he gets to run in two races at the State Meet in Boston tomorrow!  We're so proud of our first time track star!

Maggie had a Galentine's celebration with friends in Newport, RI... which we heartily approve of over a Valentine's date :)

Andrew had some family visiting him at college last weekend.  Phil's sister Kelly, her husband TJ, and their kiddos were out in Steubenville for TJ's grandmother's funeral at the same time that Andrew's cousin, Liam, was also visiting from his college in Michigan.

Liam, Andrew, Kelly and Tommy

Andrew with their youngest, Ollie who is quite the ham sandwich!

Kelly sent me this nice text after the weekend:

I am so touched that Andrew went to his Uncle's Grandma's funeral.  I teach the kids that when you're trying to decide if you should go to someone's wake and funeral... just go.  Even if you don't know them or their surviving family that well, you'll never regret supporting people in their times of need and people take note.

Speaking of times of need - the kids NEEDED a warm bath and hot chocolate after playing in the snow for hours and hours on Sunday.

Snow days mean some extra cleaning time and Phil dismantled the kitchen and dining room lights and gave them a good cleaning in the bath tub.

I did my part and baked a chocolate chip coffee cake that Billie Jo had recommended and the kids gobbled it up so fast!  The oldest kids shovelled us out and we had a sort of lame Superbowl Party with no visitors (sickness still going through the house) and nobody cared who won.  But the food was good!

Superbowl Sundaes, as always.

And now I can't get Not Like Us out of my head as I two step around the house.

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's weekend with your lovies!  Hey Phil, I know we said no cards or gifts but I couldn't help myself!

:)

  2. Oh my goodness - the eggs! That's hilarious.
Also, aren't those mugs the cutest thing for hot chocolate? I love that they have a cute pattern AND you can see through them. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite like it and I'm mildly obsessed. I will be keeping my eyes open at thrift stores from now on!

    1. They are such cute mugs - passed down to me from my mom. I'll have to check if there's a brand on them. Happy Valentine's Day!

  3. Ah, I think it's nice Eamon can shine this week. Your advice for funerals has always been mine too... no one has ever been sad to see too many people at their loved one's funeral Mass. Enjoy the track meet. Consider bringing a book... they're long and boring. (until it's your kid's turn!)

    1. I ran track in high school - so I guess I have actually been to a track meet ha! but never as a spectator, the book is a good idea. His two events are over 2 hours apart. Happy Valentine's Day!

  5. Now I know I’m old, because I have no idea who Kendrick and Drake are! Ha ha! (I’m sure I would find the card very funny if I did!) But this was a delightful post—as always. I love the advice you gave your kids about attending wakes and funerals. It’s means so much to grieving families.

  6. The photo of you and Phil! So cute! And the eggs made me giggle, which was a nice relief from the massive cringe of poor Eamon's phone! Yikes! Hoping everyone is back to peak wellness.

  7. Congrats to Eamon. That's so exciting. I hope they do well and enjoy being there. I've asked the girls if they want to go sledding today, translation: I hope Coach feels like taking them when he gets some from working out and going to the grocery store for me. Um, I'll be here with hot chocolate. That counts for something. Your card at the end is funny. I don't really get it - but I get it enough to laugh. ;)
