This past week was rough, illness-wise, for the parentals at Casa Martin. I had a fever for a whole week that had me not sleeping and eventually turned into congestion and a cough. Phil has had a cold and bad cough for almost two weeks. We both went to the doctor, which included a chest x-ray for moi, got prescriptions for antibiotics (and steroids for Phil) and have finally turned the corner. The only upside to being sick? Not having to go to work! But the whole catching up at work after a week off has not been fun.
Guys, my glasses were fogging up because of the mask and I felt like I was suffocating. How did we wear these things for so long?
Let's focus on some good things mkay?
The Washington Commanders won on Sunday night, which was a huge victory, and Eamon got so excited that he threw off his shirt and ran around the family room. Andrew was freaking out as well, texting and face-timing from Ohio. These boys have been fans for so long to a team that stunk, and I'm so grateful they are able to see them go this far into playoffs finally. Next big game is this Sunday! Go Commies!

Lucy Doodle got a DIY bath at our local pet store. For $12 it's worth it for the ease and to not have a wet dog run around our house :) Plus the kids seem to think of it as fun and not a chore, muahaha!
Xander's 8th Grade Science Fair is today! He is presenting his project "Shell Shock for a Sweet Tooth" to judges, and like we tell all of our kids...do well enough to get a good grade but not well enough to move to the next level of science fair competitions. Ain't nobody got time for that!
This game has been a HUGE hit with the boys (all ages including Phil) especially on these cold winter days.
Gluten-free January hasn't been too bad at all, there are so many available options but they are just not quite as good. I do like Aldi's cauliflower crust pizza and eat that even when I'm not cutting out gluten. I have to admit though, I don't think it is making any difference to how I feel...but maybe I wouldn't know that until I try and add it back in? I appreciated the comment from JMG about looking into digestive enzymes and might try that in February. You guys are full of great ideas!

I think Brendan is tired of the healthy eating that January brings:
I saw this recently and it was a good reminder. We make our own coffee and pack our own lunches, so we're not spending money on those things, but I can way too easily buy items online that aren't necessities and I need to reign that in.
And that's about it around these parts. Please pray for Andrew and his friends who are attending the pro-life march today, these things always make me nervous in the political climate we are in but I'm proud of them for showing up.
Have a wonderful football watching, treat eating, relaxing weekend everyone!
So sorry that you were so sick! When the parents go down, so much at home grinds to a halt. I hope your teen drivers pitched in shuttling siblings about and going to the store for you.
ReplyDeleteAnd after binging on online shopping through the Xmas season ( through the Martin amazon portal!), I'm am trying not to look at the sales and ads the stores send me. I did have to send my daughter a book, which we used to own but apparently I gave away in one of my decluttering purges. 😞 I'm also tracking food expenses for the first time in a while. At $1000 already, and over a week to go. Yikes.
Good luck catching up with everything!
They are good about driving kids around, but going to the store not so much! $1000 for three weeks doesn't seem horrible? We must be doing something wrong because we are spending $2000 a month. Gosh that hurts to type! I keep thinking of next fall when our oldest three will all be out of the house and eating on a meal plan or their own dime, that should help a lot!!
DeleteWe are here ".do well enough to get a good grade but not well enough to move to the next level of science fair competitions" with our son in sports right now. I had to laugh and also nod along.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better - it seems like everyone I know has had rough health things lately. The bugs seem to really have staying power :(
Ah yes the old "cheer for your kid to make playoffs but then hope they lose in an early round" style of parenting. Here for it!
