Of Monsters and Men

Guys, I just LOVE this song, Little Talks, by Of Monsters and Men.  It sort of haunts me, and is so beautiful that I had to look up the words to understand what it is about.  The video is very, ummm, artsy?  I don't know, I never understand music videos.  Just close your eyes and listen to the song.

Little Talks
Hey! Hey! Hey!
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear
The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

Some days I can't even dress myself
It's killing me to see you this way

Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Hey! Hey! Hey!
There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back
Well tell her that I miss our little talks
Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love

Some days I feel like I'm wrong when I am right
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

You're gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart
There's nothing we can do
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

I *think* it is about a woman who lost her husband.  If you have any deeper insights, let me know.  For now I'll just keep replaying it....

  1. I love this son too. Thee is all of a sudden like 10 songs that are out right now that are all great. Which is odd since muic was horrible for so long...it was all brittney spears crap nad now actual music. its great. My favorite part of ths song is when they say.."and full of life and full of love". But, yeah the video is weird. My interpretation is definately of a life crossing over to death sort of thing...

  2. My teenager introduced me to Of Monsters and Men when she used her itunes gift card to put this song on her ipod -- and it syncs to our computer automatically so we can see what our kids are up to.

When I heard it, I thought of it more as a couple who has been separated by dementia/Alzheimer's kind of disease . . . their spouse is still physically there, but that person is not really there anymore. It's such a terrible kind of suffering, but maybe that's my interpretation because that is what we are going through with my grandmother right now. I don't know . . .

And yeah, videos are really weird. But isn't this band from Iceland or somewhere like that? They always have the strangest videos. :)
