Superbowl....Superbelly

So did you watch it?

We were sort of rooting for the 49ers, who made an exciting comeback but couldn't finish.  It was really nice to watch the game without feeling so stressed out for your team to win.  So thanks Patriots for losing that last playoff game and helping me out like that.

It was a leeeetle beeet tense to watch brothers go head to head:

Too much football talk?  Ok, moving on....

We cooked and cleaned and starved ourselves all day in order to overindulge last night.

"Bip!"

The most moving moment of the night was watching the Sandy Hook Choir sing.  Even Xander seemed to sense the emotional tone:

Nailed it!
Fr. Cook came over and wound up the kids as usual:

"Paul-Paul!!"

More friends came over and we feasted...
Meatballs in the crockpot - easy crowd pleaser

I only make Stromboli for the Superbowl, and it turned out awesome, even though these two got a little frisky!

Caitlin's donkey balls were amazing!

A closeup for you to drool over

Beyonce is one of my favorite singers ever, and she is so beautiful, but why did she have to wear this?:

I did love seeing Destiny's Child back together.  I always wanted to be the 4th member of Destiny's Child, Colleeniqua.

This was my favorite commercial:

And we had good reason to celebrate because it was St. Blaise's feast day!  Alexander's middle name is Blaise, and so Fr. Jay blessed all our throats, using the Latin prayer from his iPhone.  Technology and Theology! (Hey that's a good blog name for a tech savvy priest)

The candles he used were Eamon and Maggie's Baptismal candles.

And the Xander Blaise kissed his godFather to show his appreciation:

During the game, we had to show this clip to people who apparently live under a rock hadn't yet seen it:
Orange peanut?  For me?  I accept you!

And the diet starts this morning
as soon as the leftovers are gone
for Lent.

  1. Yummy, yummy in your tummy. Looks delish!
How fun and special that Fr. Cook could do the St. Blaise blessing at your house and using your kids' baptismal candles. And, is it just me or could Fr. Cook and Phil be brothers? At least, they kind of look like it from the side there.
Surely you were watching your Ice, Ice Baby video, right??

  3. we always have sore throats on st. blaise day. I think everyone does--which is why we need that feast day.

those donkeyballs--love those. I used to make those when I was a teenager but we call them buckeyes. Too much temptation now to indulge for me with those.

    colleeniqua :):)

  5. How awesome to have a priest friend like that!! Totally jealous. In a virtuous way.

And Beyonce??? Horrible. I guess we know now why she was lip syncing at the inauguration. I don't think she sang more than a few lines...more yelling and "put your hands together" and background singing than anything else. And rough burlesque dancing. Ugh. Someday I hope to be able to let my kids actually watch the Superbowl...

  7. Stromboli...yum! I was born and lived in Ohio for several years, we call them Buckeyes too....regardless of what you call them, they are delicious. Yes, does seem like everyone has sore throats on St. Blaise's Feast Day!

  8. Coleeniqua! I love it! And if the whole Destiny's Child thing doesn't work out you can always be on the Backyardigans! ;)

And I thought Beyonce's outfit was a little too little and her "dancing" was too much. I wished my kids weren't watching!

  9. That food looks delicious! I was so excited for Beyonce and a DC reunion!! And then it happened. Such a let down. Still like the music, but the dancing and the outfits were horrible!

  11. That stromboli is bangin', sister! And I'm assuming that means it's good because my super hip little brother told me that's what it means.

Also, and I'm slightly ashamed to admit this but here goes, that NFL bad lip reading makes me laugh so hard that I pee my pants a little every time. I can't help it - all those babies and the sheer hilarious-ness of the clip are a deadly combo! ;) The "Twilight" bad lip reading is also extremely funny.

And I loved that commercial, too! DO you read "A Holy Experience" by Ann Voskamp? Her post today is a meditation on this commercial and it is one of the best things I've read in a while. Just google it, you'll like it.

    Happy Monday! :)

  13. My favorite part was that Jones from the Ravens had even better moves than Beyonce. The guy was hilar!
The Destiny's Child reunion was awesome! (And made up for Beyonce's crazy outfit/performance... what happened to classy Beyonce??).
Diet definitely starts after the leftovers.. as I sit here eating leftover pie.

  14. Mmmmmmm.... wish I was there for the food! That Fr. Cook, he definitely is mr. Fun-fun! What a "blessing" to have priests for the Superbowl!

  15. Oh Colleeniqua, you pulled off an amazing superbowl party.
Donkey balls and meatballs....that is a metaphor for football. Right?
I can only assume that Beyonce had on a full outfit, but was grabbed at by the crowd on her way to the stage and they ripped up her wardrobe?

  16. I just love how much fun your family has together! And I am so glad you liked the donkey balls! :)

I agree about Beyonce - love her voice, not that outfit!!
