Week in Review: Bike Paths, Boat Rides and Barbie Overload

After work last Friday (our new superintendent always lets us out an hour early on Fridays and she is now my favorite boss) Maggie and I decided to ride the recently expanded bike path.  The path starts in our town, right across the street from The Ice Cream Cottage and goes about 6 miles each way into the next town over.  It was so beautiful and felt like a vacation :)

Then we went to a cookout to celebrate the end of a camp week for Xander, Declan and Brendan.  Camp Acutis was a new camp this year, run by three parishes in our diocese and focused on learning Gregorian chant and sports and games and daily Mass.  The boys loved it!

They gave each camper a certificate, and here's what my guys received:

This is very apropos since the name Declan means "man of prayer"

I always thought Eamon was our holiest child, but Brendan may be taking his spot ;)

On Saturday, my oldest brother took the non-working kids out on his boat and they had so much fun!

Vitamin Sea and Vitamin D makes one sleepy.

On Saturday night, we went to a friend's house to see our friend Shelby who was visiting from Alaska.  Shelby and I share a pretty cool story about how we met and it was so nice to catch up.  Her family came by The Cottage to get ice cream a few days later:

On Sunday I was making waffle cones at The Cottage, and I looked out the window to see this scene:

The woman in the pink shirt had been riding the bike path and something was wrong with her bike.  So she called a tow truck!  Apparently you can do this if you have AAA but the poor tow truck driver was very confused as to why he brought his big truck over to fix a bike that he wasn't even sure how to fix.  But he did it!  We thought it would have been hysterical if he put the bike up on the bed of that truck and drove it away :)

I sent this meme to JP this week, because he loves to watch tiktok food recipes and then destroy our kitchen when he makes them:

My brother's family and my sister's family are vacationing together at another brother's house about 20 minutes away, so this week has been all cousins all the time.  I honestly don't even know where my kids have been sleeping most nights.  They're having so much fun together, and these are the relationships we always hoped they would have with their cousins.  The boys have been golfing, they all hang at the beach, go to the pool, and the girls just had to go see the Barbie movie together:

Maggie was never allowed to play with barbies and she said the movie was "weird" but she enjoyed the girly-ness of getting ready and spending time with her cousins.

Andrew thought of this Battle of the Tips idea, where people leave a tip and cast a vote at the same time.  I think it's working and they are actually making more tips!

We had a giveaway this week for a chance to win this Barbie Ice Cream Shop for anyone that bought a Barbie Frappe.  I think it's so funny that it says "You Can Be Anything" and then she chose to be an ice cream shop owner!  I'm just over here living the dream :)

And that my friends is another week in the rearview.  This summer is absolutely flying by and my next post will be in August which is just wild.  Have a great last weekend of July everyone, hug your loved ones extra tight :)

  2. She called a tow truck? Oh that is almost too trippy! I'll have to think on that for a while. I agree that you kinda wonder about Barbie opening an ice cream shop, but perhaps it was her life-long dream. Follow your passion and all that!

  3. I just listened to a podcast about the Barbie movie and it sounds very clever and funny! I probably won't see it though because I'm lazy about things like that. I love that it's become such a thing, with all the pink and such. I loved playing Barbies when I was a kid because CLOTHES! Dressing up is my jam.

  4. I love the picture of the "Barbie" girls! My teen daughter - who works at an ice cream shop - got dressed up with my pink shirt, her little sister's pink sandals (she has dainty feet for someone who's 5'10"), and all sorts of pink accessories for a similar picture at their ice cream store! All the young ladies came "Barbie" style - but they din't go to the movie until 10 pm (Ice cream place closes at 9:30). I love how the teens get into the spirit of things!
That bike path looks amazing - not too many hills near the shoreline I bet!
    Enjoy yor weekend!

    1. We live in such a flat area that running and biking are relatively easy. I run in New Hampshire when we used to spend a week there each summer and woah! I felt like a newbie runner on those hills.

  6. Camp Acutis sounds amazing!! I just love the juxtaposition of Gregorian chant with sports (something Bl. Carlo would surely have enjoyed!).

    1. I wish my boys enjoyed the chanting more, unfortunately I'm the only singer in the family. Not to say I'm good at it, but everyone else is too embarrassed to do it loudly.

  7. I love all the cousin time! It's so great that they all enjoy spending time together! I have yet to see either movie but Sarah saw Barbie and Peter saw both movies. He said Oppenheimer was awesome but that Barbie was pretty good too.

    The movie/tipping idea is GENIUS!
Bike rides and boat days, you guys know how to do summer.

  10. This post is chock full of happiness and fun. I love it. Cousin time is a blast. The bike path is giving me another reason to come visit, but the main reason is still the ice cream people at the start of the path . . . and their clever ways of increasing their tips. How wonderful that your brother grabbed a group of your guys and took them out on his boat. Summer is flying by. We go to a place in Michigan that we rented on Friday for a long weekend - and Coach's sister and fam are joining us. Should be a lot of laughs. The tow truck photo is reminding me of a video Mini took when we were driving back from Ohio that I must post soon.
