Our First Race

Phil and I ran in our first ever race (well, since high school, at least) on Saturday.
It was a 10K (6.2 miles) and we had 3 goals:
1) To run a race
2) To NOT stop at all - just keep running, no walking
3) To finish in under an hour
Here we are staying warm in the car before the race. It was 45 degrees out, and damp, so we were chilly.
Some old guy walked by while I was doing this silly pose, and I felt, well, silly!
Phil was so nice to come run with me, and he stayed with me the whole time (I threatened sleeping on the couch if he didn't - ha!). He could've run the race faster, but we accomplished all 3 of our goals!
We finished under an hour, I ran it in 58:56 and Phil, being the gentleman he is, came in one second after me.

It was a good experience, and since my parents were watching the kids, it felt like a date! I think the next race on the agenda is the Half Marathon in March, I just need to figure out how to train all winter long.

  1. Congratulations!!
I did a one mile swim in the bay with my husband and he stayed with me even though he's actually WON the race before.
    Great times.
I hope we do it again ...maybe.

  2. Woo-hoo! Way to go! What a man you have, running with you and staying alongside you too. You're looking great! Just love that photo...such a stong woman you are :)
Great time too...I'm pretty sure I won't be running that many miles in under an hour ANY TIME soon.ha.

  3. Congrats! That's awesome! No way I could run that far. Although I'm going to be joining the YMCA here in a bit to get back in shape.

That is so sweet that he stayed with you the whole time, and even better that he let you be ahead of him! :)

  4. Way to go! What a great accomplishment, for both of you! Did you feel the "high" after getting done? :-) Maybe someday I will be brave enough to take on a 10K.
Good for you and your goals, too - bet you'll see that reflected at your next WW meeting!

I love that you considered this a 'date', I would consider it punishment for something bad I have done in the past. :)

  8. Congratulations! I run in my first 10K this weekend! That is awesome!

Thanks for stopping by my blog too! So, when were you at Steubenville? I was the RD of Trinity for 2 years (1999-2001). My hubby was there forever. You do not look familiar, but it has been a while!

  9. Congratulations, that's awesome! I haven't been running in sooo long! Too busy tapping at the computer I guess and my thighs are suffering for it!

Good luck on the next one!

  10. I just noticed that you want to run a half marathon in March. For training in the cold, the only advice I have is GLOVES!
