  2. Hmmm....if it were here in MN and during winter, I'd put maybe some greens from a pine tree and pinecones. Maybe some type of cheap snowflakes that I could find at a craft store too? I have also done the Valentines conversation hearts this time of year, but I think my centerpiece bowl may be smaller. You also have to remind kids that they are for display and not eating :)

Sorry, I'm not very helpful. Will be interested to see what others have for ideas. I'm sure Pinterest would have a whole slew of ideas (if you are into Pinterest).

  3. Yeah...that would be waaaaay too much candy. You are evil, Aimee!

And Sarah, love the pinecone idea. In fact, I love it so much I already used it for November/December :) The snowflake idea is good too!

  4. What color is your kitchen? This time of year, with colds and flu just lurking everywhere, I'd say fill it with lemons and rosemary sprigs. Use the lemons to make lemon water/vitamin C tonics (vitamin C degrades so quickly with sunlight and air, so unless you're getting it fresh, you're not getting it at all)and the rosemary is antiviral and antibacterial, so you can throw some of it into your mop water if you're not a big fan of bleach (heretic!).
Bay leaves would be pretty in there, too, but I can't immediately remember the medicinal properties of those.

You could put some rocks at the bottom of the bowl to bulk it up, so you didn't have to buy a million lemons to fill it.

  5. I am no Martha Stewart, so I am of no help to you! But I do like the lemon and rosemary sprig idea. Our bowl is filled with fruit!

  6. Stones and paper white bulbs, it's so wonderful having flowers blooming in the winter!

  7. I was going to say what Sarah said, but you could change it with each month---white balls of yarn for Jan (snowballs), heart stuff for February...etc....but you could also fill it with fruit!! Bright yellow Lemons!! (I've always wanted to do that like they show in designer shows, but you know that fruit doesn't last forever)

  8. You know me with the cheapo option. I love the lemon idea. But I am bad with produce I can't eat all the time and they would go bad and rot. So I googled and found the coolest idea! It's just a rope!

But you could also opt for whole nuts like walnuts and pecans. They would be pretty and wouldn't go bad?

  9. Valentines day is coming....hearts of some sort...the kids could cut them out of paper or do foam hearts.
    In the spring: LEMONS!!!!

  10. glass stones to match the season and fill it with water 1/2 way (not likely to spill) and floating candles (I even have extra beautiful red stones and floating candles I could give you) During different seasons change the stones or base element color and candles or float flower heads instead like peonies... OR you could put coffee beans in the bottom and some ...or even just one pillar candles. The lights will dance off the glass and add warmth and fragrance (if scented). It'll last, be low maintenance and inexpensive.

If it had still been Christmas, I'd have said fill it with shiny glass ornaments...

    SO many options!
