Advice Needed: Painting Our House

Our house:
Don't mind the balding lawn (it's sensitive) or the shutter shadows (we trying to make them a "thing", but so far our neighbors aren't catching on).

Tomorrow, we will meet with a painter to get an estimate for painting the outside of our house (shutters, trim, window boxes and doors).

Since I like to plan ahead, I am thinking about colors.

Currently, if you can't tell from the picture, we have cream trim and shutters (the ones left hanging), and blue doors and window boxes.

I'm thinking slightly off-white trim and window boxes, and then sage green doors and shutters.

Maybe something like this (too bad the house doesn't come with the paint job!):

What's your opinion?

  1. Well since I have a love affair with green (my wedding was purple and green, and now so is my living room complete with a green accent wall... oh and a green future baby room and green kitchen), my opinion should be taken with a pound of salt but... LOVE IT!

  2. What about white/off white house and black shutters? Ask your painter for suggestions, usually they are great with color combinations. Also check with your township. Many have rules for type and colors allowed on exteriors.

    1. We are lucky that we are free to do what we want. We are unlucky that some other houses in our town have owners with bad taste ;)

  3. You need yellow. With that grey clapboard action, you need a buttery yellow. Maybe yellow shutters and door, with a crisp white trim?

  4. Sounds like it would look nice. Did I miss something . . . is this your new house or the house you are trying to sell?

    1. I should have clarified. This is our current home that we want to fix up so it will sell faster!

  6. I have a white house with black shutters and it's...well, it's boring. Not to mention the white against the snow is sad, bad, sad, and bad. Anyway, enough about me!

I think white trim is a must but green seems like it would be lovely for the shutters. Although the yellow idea is snazzy too...

    1. Yes, I was all for the green....and then Cari threw a wrench in it and now I'm thinking yellow too. Oh, the power of suggestion!

  9. I love the green but I could also see a tanny/yellow with black shutters :) Maybe this is too weird but I also have something for those rustic unpainted shingles if you just did the shutters...
