Would You Consider...

...fasting for the election tomorrow?

Every time you feel hungry, say a prayer that people vote with well-informed consciences.  Catholics and Christians should never participate in the evil act of abortion in any way, and voting for a pro-choice candidate would be participating in that evil.

When I was at Steubenville, there used to hang a sign in my dorm that read "If mothers can wake up at 5 am to abort their babies, you can wake up at 5 am to pray for them."  I've never forgotten that quote and I never will.

If voters can take the time and energy to cast a ballot that will support abortion, than you can take the time and energy to fast and pray that God will find a way to end it.

That's it.  I'm not a politician, and I'm not a theologian but I believe in God's mercy and justice and the power of prayer.

Will you join me?

  1. Wow. The only signs hanging up in my college dorms were advertising bar nights and concerts being given by dreadful garage bands.

One more reason I'm sending my kids to a Catholic college.

Anyway, I'll be joining you tomorrow. Fast and pray!

    1. Not too much fasting for a nursing mama!! Glad you want to send Lotus to a Catholic college - we'll have to coordinate which one so JP can join her :)

  2. Joining you! Fasting and praying for these elections. MN also has a marriage amendment to vote on and I'm afraid of what the outcome will bring for us. And my children.

My little girls woke up with colds and coughs, so I anticipate there will be lots to offer up over the next couple of days ;)

    1. Thanks, my pastor asked us all to fast tomorrow - so it's not MY idea!!

I'm actually fasting today because I'm giving blood on Wednesday morning and think I might pass out if I had fasted for the whole day before!

  4. We are praying that our country takes a turn... My children feel very strongly on this issue and I am proud of them. We almost adopted a baby a couple of years ago and the young girl aborted at her parents will...my children feel very connected to the importance of saving those little lives! My second son is heading to DC in the new year for the big march! My other son may be returning as a chaperone! We will be offering it up tomorrow as well!

    1. It's so sweet to see that innocent and loving children can understand how important and sacred life is. What happens to adults as we get older? Why can't we see as clearly as children?

  5. Thank you for such an inspiring post, Colleen!

Everytime you talk about Steubenville I hope I can send my boys there when the time comes. I had wanted to go there so badly but instead went the community college/state college route. My hope is that by the time my kids come of age, there will be many more "Steubenvilles" out there.

    1. We hope to send our kids there too, but don't know how we will ever be able to afford it! I just trust God will provide for wherever they need :)

  6. Colleen... any other ideas for pregnant or nursing moms? I want to offer up a real sacrifice for the election, but am looking for ideas. We'll pray together for a NO on Assisted Suicide (crazy) and a NO on Obama... and Warren.

My sign on my door says: "The baby is sleeping, so please don't ring the doorbell. We're Catholic and Pro-Life. We're Voting for Mitt Romney and Scott Brown and NO on Question 2. Thank you!"

(Though I wish Scott Brown got his act together more...)

    1. I love the sign on your door.

If I were you and pregnant and nursing...I would either only eat 3 meals with no sweets or junk food, or I would sacrifice something else besides food...like no tv for the day or whatever it is you consider a sacrifice.

(Honestly, just being pregnant is such a huge sacrifice on your body and a great pro-life message!!)

  11. I am definitely fasting and praying today. Even though I'm nursing, I know if I stay hydrated, my baby will not go without. God has so blessed me with abundant supply that it would be wrong for me not embrace that fact and join in!

  12. I am only seeing this post now, and while am in shock and disbelief at the election results, I am heartened seeing this post and the other good women out there who will stand up for morals and babies' lives! We won't give up or stop trying to be heard. XOXO
