Somehow, someway this little beauty:
with the sassy attitude:
turned into this big beauty:
with a residual amount of sass:
Our Maggie in the Middle turned seventeen this weekend and awoke to some nice/funny cards from her little brothers and a joke gift, then real gift from her older brothers. She certainly is loved!
Her dad, whom she has wrapped around her little finger, made her a hootenanny for breakfast because the birthday girl gets what the birthday girl wants.
Then Maggie and I went to a workout class together for old-times sake. Since she started high school and does three seasons of sports, the days she has enough free time to join me for a workout are limited and I cherish the times we can go together.
Brendan wrote this on the prayer board:
AND played her Happy Birthday on the piano:
I mean, what else could a girl want besides a prayer and a player?
Of the piano version.
Not a play-ah. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Maggie said she didn't want to have anybody over for her birthday dinner, besides Gammy and Grandpa, but then, true to her personality, she changed her mind halfway through the day and invited Haley and Jonathan to come over. Eamon and his girlfriend, Ellie, took her out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant where they sang to her and called her "little peanut" in Spanish.
She then had tryouts for an off-season volleyball league and came home and showered just in time for her birthday dinner. Maggie Moo chose wienerschnitzel (thin fried pork) and mashed potatoes and green beans. We added some corn because the green beans were scarce:
And an ice cream cake that once again, Phil made for his principessa:
Maggie Rose got lots of nice gifts, with a heavy emphasis on clothes because *teenage girl*. It helped that she literally sent us links to the exact presents she wanted :)
How lucky are we, in a sea of testosterone, to have a wonderful daughter like Mags. She is my partner in crime and brings so much love and laughter to our home. We all went around the dinner table to say what we loved about her, and the consensus was that she was a great singer and card-writer and taker of siblings wherever they want to go.
I mentioned our amazing kitchen performances where we sing and dance to musical numbers, and Maggie said "I know. We are so good that we should get consummated!"
We all spit out our food and then Phil said "I think you mean compensated."
"Oh yeah, that's what I meant."
Grandpa chimed in, "Did someone say constipated?"
And now you know what dinner at our house is like :)
Happy 17th Birthday Maggie! We love you so much and are so blessed by your life and honored that we get to be your parents. We hope you never date or go to college or leave our house, but if you must, we know you will absolutely set this world on fire. You will always be our favorite girl.
