Now That's Love
Andrew was playing at his cousin, Lilly's house, and told my sister, Maura, that he had to go to the bathroom. Somebody was in the downstairs bathroom, so he went upstairs.
A couple minutes later, he called down to let her know he was all done, and needed to get wiped. (Please tell me this is normal to still wipe your 5 year old's bum??)
Maura was feeding her baby boy, so she yelled up for him to do his best and she would check him later.
A few minutes after that, Andrew and Lilly come downstairs together, and Maura lets Andrew know she can check him now. And Lilly says:
Oh no, you don't have to. I checked him, and then he checked me and we are all clean!
Now that's love.

Hi Lo: September 3rd

HI's:
1) Quote from John-Paul: "Mom, second grade is soooo much better than first grade". Love it! His first homework assignment was to eat ice cream and go to bed early...sounds like my kind of teacher :)

2) I had the chance on Thursday morning to take the kids to daily Mass because we were running early (which is extremely rare). What a wonderful way to start the day! Two women at the church even offered to take John-Paul up to Communion with them because I stayed in the pew (I had eaten breakfast too late). I had to thank them for the offer and let them know that he hasn't received First Communion yet, but how kind of them. I must have looked like I needed the help!
3) Andrew, Eamon, and Maggie had their school orientations this week. They did awesome. Maggie just walked right off and started playing, no separation anxiety there at all. But man, oh man, some of those 3 year olds were not happy campers. Do you think it's a good thing that my kids just walk away from me with a smile?
4) While walking past John-Paul's second grade class, I saw that all the kids had their rosary beads out and were praying the Rosary together. I LOVE that school!
LO's:
1) Where did the summer go? I can't believe it's September already!

2) Hurricane Earl is coming to get us today!
We're stocking up on batteries, bread, milk, flashlights, and candy. Andrew is our resident scaredy-cat when it comes to storms, so he will probably be up all night. I'm thinking about breaking our rules and letting him sleep in bed with us.

How was your week?

Now Everybody Poops in the Toilet!
(at least in our house, not sure about yours!)
Since Maggie will be starting preschool next week, we had to really focus on getting her poop-potty-trained. I made her this chart with a promise of a new backpack when she pooped 5 times on the potty:
(I know you're all jealous of my artistic skills!)There were plenty of tears and threats of "bum medicine" (a children's suppository) if she needed help pooping. Don't worry, they were just threats, we knew she had to poop because she would ask for a diaper to poop in.
She also asked for a lot of privacy, which I thought was so cute, until I realized she was getting off the potty to play with my makeup - ugh, girls!
But, each day she would go and cross off one number on the chart.
Until, the day finally came when she could get her backpack!!
John-Paul helps her open it. The boys were so involved in helping to encourage Maggie everyday. Big brothers are great when it comes to potty talk :)
Of course, it had to be an L.L. Bean backpack with their lifetime warranties, cute designs and monograms. (Thanks Nana!!)
Immediately after posing for this picture, she went to fill up her backpack with two baby dolls, Princess Aurora, a fairy, and a pink Care Bear, you know, the necessities!
Then she complained it was too heavy - ugh, girls!
