Week in Review: Sad Days, Sweet Epitaphs and Saintly Men

I would say Happy Friday, but I'm writing this on the day after Charlie Kirk was assassinated and another school shooting has occurred, which is also 9/11, so it's been a very sad day.  What is wrong with this world?  I have recently felt very called to start going to daily Mass whenever possible, and I am going to talk to my boss about rearranging my schedule and working less hours to make that happen.  I know one person's prayers seem like not much in this world, but nothing is impossible for God and when my time is up I want to be caught doing good.

“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Lk 12:40)

Even in these terrible times, life goes on for the lucky, and here's what's been happening in our neck of the woods...

Declan's soccer season has started.  He's on a town rec team and Grades 5-8 are Coed this year, so teeny tiny Declan is playing with big pubetic (that should be a word) 8th graders and it is a sight to see.  He holds his own pretty well, and his team was so good that they actually had to reassign some of the older kids to other teams to make them more fair.  Rec leagues, where everyone wins a trophy!

Xan the Man has been running everyday and seems to be enjoying it as well as the nice group of kids on the Cross Country team.  I went to my first meet and everybody is so cheerful and supportive, much like when you run a race and the spectators really help you cross that finish line.  The boys from the soccer team found out he was Eamon's little brother and all started saying hi to him which is so sweet.

I typically work out on my lunch break, but decided to take a Spin Class after work on Tuesday instead, so I had free time at noon and found a little hole in the wall nail salon and had my nails did, which is a rare treat.  I also got McDonald's for lunch after and boy did that Big Mac and Diet Coke hit the spot!

I had never sweat so much at a Spin Class - it it the workout or old lady stuff?

On Wednesday night, the kids' elementary school had a mandatory Back to School night, which I attended as a parent and the kids' high school also had Back to School night, which Phil attended as a teacher.  It was a long night and my friend and I were thinking that they should raffle off a Get Out of Back to School Night Pass at their annual gala, because it would sell for lots of moolah!

Declan warned me his locker was going to be messy.

Brendan's assignment had me laughing and tearing up.  What a funny sweetheart!

I asked the college kids for some photos of his week, and Andrew sent these.  Hey Eamon and JP, there's an easy way for you to stay in my good graces ;)

Steubenville looks pretty...at night!

When a Sister is walking by and offers to help with your friend's haircut :)

Soccer Team Manager duties - hydration is key!

One of my sister's family got back from a trip to Japan and brought some interesting KitKats to try.  They were tangy?!?  Not that great but I'll suffer through it ;)

Meals for Six this week included a crockpot chicken with baked potatoes, green beans, beer bread and gravy:

Then the leftovers were turned into Chicken a la King with Biscuits the next day:

Last weekend I took the boys to see Freakier Friday at the theater while the others scooped ice cream:

Two thumbs up!

Then we watched part of the canonizations of SAINT Carlo Acutis and SAINT Pier Giorgio Frassati.  Such a cool day for our church!

I haven't loved all of his quotes but this one is golden!

A historic day

A historic day plus Lucy Doodle

I hope you all have wonderful weekends with your family and friends and hug them extra tight and say some extra prayers for us all, please and thank you!
