Phil created a daily summer to-do list for the youngest kids, which has been working surprisingly well, so I wanted to share. These are merely suggestions, but the main point is for each kid to do something spiritual, educational, physical and a chore that helps the family/house run smoothly.
We let them have their beloved screen time in the late afternoon only if they've done something from each section:
Their schools assign summer work, and then I also buy workbooks to make sure the littles keep up with some skills after their assigned reading and math work is completed.

Maggie's been ordering items for her dorm room (I can't think about it without crying!) and talking with her roommate to coordinate comforters and headboards and general dorm room vibes. Links here

Too much stuff, Maggie!! You'll have ro move it all. Headboards? Really? Man, am I old. We just lived with the old mattresses in un-airconditioned dorm. The fan is key though- never can have enough of those.
ReplyDeleteYour summer schedule puts me to shame. I get my boys to read a bit, but ever other grand academic practice withered. Though my youngest has started running each morning to prep for cross country in the fall. He's never done it before, but the basketball coach wants him to try. Apparently it's a low key sport.

Yeah the headboard is a new one after sending boys to college! We're dropping her off in a 12 passenger van and then they have a minivan out there so she does technically have the room to move it, though I think it's a bit too much too.
DeleteYour summer schedule is more lax than mine. I give my kids half hour scheduled things to do. lol. But I am the meanest and I have the TV password protected so they legitimately can't watch anything but a DVD until one of the adults is around to unlock it. I don't know what the Franciscan bathroom situation is, but don't forget a bathmat if the bathroom situation warrants one. That was the one thing we had to go buy in the moment that I really needed.
ReplyDeleteOh we are exactly the same with the tv - they don't know the code and we have very limited scheduled times when they can have screens. Mean parents FTW! The bathroom is a shared bathroom for the whole floor, so no bathmats needed, but good idea!

DeleteAlways helpful to see his other busy houses are managing. Our formula tends to be workout, read, do set chores at home, and work outside the home. The college stuff is sneaking up on me. I’ve asked Curly to start a list and you would think I have it down to a science dropping off our 6th, but alas- we are not that organized.
ReplyDeleteSo much working at the shop here...just not for the little guys yet. We also do not have it down when it comes to college lists, but Maggie is much more on the ball with it than her brothers were. When does Curly head out? We leave on August 19 for Maggie - less than a month already!
