7QT: Wouldn't You Know It?

Wouldn't you know it...it's FRIDAY!  And I'm linking up with the birthday girl, Kelly for Seven Quick Takes Friday.

1)

Wouldn't you know it...right after I posted about quitting Instagram because it had blocked all of my activity, I heard that sometimes that happens because you have a website linked in your bio.  I have this here bloggy linked in my Instagram bio, so I deleted it and VIOLA! I was able to comment/like/caption my photos and follow Jim Caviezel (which was the most important task of the week).  So now I'm in a tough spot because I really do want to quit Instagram until after the election is over, but I also want to post a few things before then...we have birthday season coming up.  What to do?  Stick to my guns and quit cold turkey, or quit after Columbus Day?

2)

A Fridge Saga.

Last week, my parent's fridge broke and it was a lot of scrambling for them, and sticker shock, to buy a new one that was available to take home.  They offered us their old fridge, which wasn't that old and probably only needed a part that was no longer being made, but that we could possibly find on eBay or the likes.  We hemmed and hawed and finally said no just get rid of it because our fridge was working fine, and we weren't sure if replacing that part would even work.

Wouldn't you know it...our fridge died this week!  Seriously!  On Tuesday we got home from work and the food was warm.  We saved what we could from the freezer (I cooked the weirdest dinner that night trying to use whatever I could) and then ran out to a scratch and dent appliance store.  We found a fridge that looked great, just a couple dents on the side, but nobody sees that, and two small dents on the bottom front, but seven kids are going to add to that anyway.  We borrowed my dad's truck and picked it up (delivery was going to take three weeks!) and then the real fun began.

We live in a two-family house, on the second and third floors.  So we had to get our old fridge down the stairs and our new one up the stairs.  The old fridge was easy to remove because Phil broke it apart in pieces, but the new one was a BEAST to bring up our hundred-year-old narrow staircase.  Phil actually had to cut out a chunk of our wall in the staircase to maneuver the fridge to fit.  Then when he got it to the kitchen, we realized that we had installed an island since the last time we bought a fridge, and trying to get it around that was another major feat.  But my strong, smart husband (and helpful teen boys) figured it out and seven hours later, the fridge made it to it's home.

3)

JP just took his first SAT!  The pandemic canceled all of the spring testings during his junior year, and then two of the SATs he signed up for in the summer and fall were canceled, so we were freaking out a bit.  Everybody kept saying that most colleges were going test-optional but wouldn't you know it...most academic scholarships still need a good SAT score and GPA as their requirement, so fingers crossed he did well!

4)

Diet Update.  You're probably thinking "Nobody cares about your diet and weight update, Colleen!" and you're probably right because you're very smart.  But here's the thing, I LOVE hearing about other people's diet and exercise lifestyles, and I'm hoping there's someone out there like me who finds this stuff intriguing.  If that's not you, please skip down to the next take.

We both lost a big chunk of weight in the first 2 weeks of Intermittent Fasting and Keto, and we definitely treat ourselves on Saturdays with whatever we want for dinner.  But for the rest of the week we are really strict, and finding meals we love, like these Keto Stuffed Peppers that we've been eating for lunch this week:

And we've kept up our workouts, which have been including running with our 6 year old (Declan is such a good runner!  He never stops and smiles and chats the whole way):

But even with all of the rule following and workout following, wouldn't you know it...we barely lost any weight during this third week!  I lost 0.2 pounds, I mean that's not even worth all of the restrictions!  I'm going to keep going with the plan until my physical on October 1, but then I might need to rethink things.

5)

Our friend Father Dave has always wanted to teach us how to play cribbage, which I always wrote off as a nursing home game, but wouldn't you know it...it's actually fun for this numbers nerd!  At least I know I'll be the hit of the nursing home one day!

6)

Soccer started!  Andrew, grade 10, made the Varsity team again, and Eamon, Maggie, Declan, and Brendan are all doing soccer clinics in our town.  I'm so glad they are all being active and part of a team, but wouldn't you know it...soccer during a pandemic looks VERY different.  Masks + Social Distancing + No High Fives + No Spectators = Sad Soccer.  Ah well, hoping it's just temporary for this year only.

7)

I clicked on Jenny's post with bated breath, as the title made me wonder what side she would land on.  But wouldn't you know it...she landed exactly where I am.  Go read it for yourself: I Voted For Trump in 2016 and I Was Ashamed.  Here's What I'm Doing Differently in 2020.  And hey, if you don't agree, well that's why we all get a vote.

Have a wonderful soccer playing, football watching, apple picking, leaf peeping weekend everybody!  Wouldn't you know...it's fall!

  1. We just did the fridge thing (except our broken one is STILL sitting in the garage driving me crazy while Phillip tries to see if he can fix it!)

Something similar happened to us when several years ago my daughter won a bike as first prize in a raffle at the library. Well, she already had a bike so I said to give it to the next winner... and then 2 weeks later, her bike got stolen. Gah!

  3. Oof, sorry about your fridge!

You do you when it comes to how you vote, diet and social media! Your path to Heaven is different than anyone else's so ultimately you're right where you should be. Have a great weekend.

  4. Did you have to take off the doors of the fridge? It makes it lighter and somewhat easier to maneuver.
We had to do that (and it still got scratched) when we brought own new fridge into the 100 yr old home with weird angles and too many doorways. However, it was better than the time we had to remove windows to bring our couch into our 2nd story apt - they put it on top of the moving van and up and in!
Seriously, you'd think manufacturers would look at the practical specs of homes rather than making appliances so awkwardly sizes that you have to remove walls to fit them.

    1. And my son's SAT was cancelled twice - the night before. It's so rude that they wait to the last minute to cancel. We have him signed up for next Saturday. This is making the college hunt so much more stressful. In rural places like where i live, it's nearly impossible to find an open testing center. (Thanks covid and my wretched state's restrictions!)

    2. It's so stressful! These poor kids have so much pressure this year, even when everything is "normal". I feel so badly for them going through senior year during a pandemic.

  5. I have NEVER BEEN SO THANKFUL for a random person as I have been for you! My Instagram hasn’t been letting me like or comment as well for weeks. Thank you! I took it off my blog and now it works again! Many, many, many thanks!
