Last Week of Summer Moments

JP (age 19) arrived safely in Gaming, Austria and is living his best life already - staying at the beautiful campus, touring a 1000 year old monastery in Melk, and having his first taste of *root*beer ;)

When he was at the airport with his girlfriend and another friend, I asked him to send me a photo and he sent me this:

And I'm like, do you know those people?  And he says "No but you asked me to send you a photo."  Teenagers are funnnnnnn!

Andrew (age 17) went to a Patriots preseason game with a friend and they had seats right on the field, lucky duckies!

This week is high school fall sports tryouts for Andrew (he's been on Varsity soccer since Freshman year so I don't think he's worried about making the team) and Eamon (he says there's no way he's making Varsity soccer because the team is already stacked) and Maggie (she's taking after her mom and switching from soccer to Volleyball and she's pretty good at it!).  I'm so glad Andrew drives so he can handle the soccer schedule with Eamon and then we just need to figure out Maggie's rides.

I finally made it to the beach this summer!

We live surrounded by beaches so it's truly a shame not to enjoy them all summer.  The kids were able to get quite a few more beach days than their poor slaving-away-at-work-mother ;)  In fact, Phil is at the Big Wave Beach today with the littles, after making this pancake breakfast (we don't even need to ask who is the favorite parent in this house, it's clear.  Or I guess you could say, it's apparent.  I crack myself up.)

When we take the little kids for ice cream where the older boys work, we let them either pick a Small size or a Kiddie size with one topping, because they are the same price.  Xander the negotiator said he would pay me the difference in price if he could get a Green Monster frappe.  I agreed and he thoroughly enjoyed his treat and I definitely collected my money.

This meal doesn't look like much, but it was delicious comfort food that everybody liked!  It was also a great way to use lots of zucchini :)  I doubled the recipe but only used half the amount of cheese because I felt it was an obscene amount.

And that my friends, is what's been happening during this LAST WEEK OF SUMMER what?!?

  1. And here I am thinking, wow that doesnt seem like a lot of cheese, I would probably switch the cheddar for Provolone and Asiago and add more lol.

    1. I doubled the recipe, so that called for 4 cups of cheese stirred into the pot, and as I held the two bags of cheese, I just thought this is way too much, right? And myself said "Right!" and it was good with only the 2 cups, though I'm sure it would be deliciously decadent with the full amount :)

  4. JP is so funny!
I love the pancakes and your 'dad' joke! Xander is a smart cookie; I really admire the way his brain works.
I'm glad you finally got to the beach; such a shame you have to work all the time! Please, buy some lottery tickets for yourself.

  5. I'd love to live closer to the beach. Galveston is 6 hours away from me. But the beaches down there are full of seaweed. The water, however, is warm enough to put a baby in.

  6. Love these pictures. Tank does the same thing when we eat our for ice cream. Insists on getting a more pricey treat and paying the difference. I admit, I'm not great at collecting. My job is very labor intensive and can be messy in more ways than one, but I am grateful to have the summers off. You are a rock star. The Austria pics are beautiful.
