Eamon's Senior Prom was on Friday, so we had to take the traditional lighthouse photo, like I did with JP and Andrew:
We bought JP and Andrew each a suit for the prom (hardly anybody here wears tuxes anymore) as their graduation gift. They both went to college and outgrew the suit, so when it came time to buy Eamon his suit, I told him if he could wear one of his brother's old suits to the prom, then I would give him money towards a new laptop instead. He was psyched and squeezed himself into JP's old suit!
After he posed for a few photos for me, he went to meet up with a bunch of friends at a senior's house near the high school:
Then they all drove to the high school, which has the tradition of a Promenade, where all the students walk out onstage and parents/friends/teachers can watch them before they head onto the bus to the prom venue. Phil says it's a tradition heldover from the times when nuns were running the school but couldn't attend the prom, and wanted to see all of the students dressed up so nice. Ahh the good old days of nuns and well-dressed kids :)

The students load up into buses and headed to the Newport Beach House, which looked beautiful:

After the Prom, the school holds After Prom, an all-night party for the students and guests with lots of entertainment and food. Eamon said he would have enjoyed it so much more if he wasn't so exhausted. He said kids were just looking for places to sit/lay and go to sleep. He came home in the morning and slept until 3pm.
My side of the family had a Memorial Day and Graduation Party for all of the graduates in the family this year. We brought 5 quarts of ice cream and a big greek salad (no olives because ewwww):

The graduates - two from college, three from high school and one from 8th grade! |
Four years ago, we celebrated these graduates:
Waste not, want not, so my sister kept the banner and updated it a little for 2025 :)
Next week, we will have the actual high school graduation events for Eamon and 8th grade events for Xander. Cue the waterworks!
Oh, those dresses are so pretty and colorful! Looks like everyone had a good time. Gold star to your sister for thinking ahead and reusing the banner!. - mbmom11
ReplyDeleteThe ruffle dresses were IN this year and I loved them! Prom dresses are so much better than Homecoming dresses because LENGTH!
DeleteThis is all so exciting! You have so many parties and celebrations and it's so wonderful there is such a big family present to celebrate big milestones.
ReplyDeleteHooray for hand-me-downs. Also, I feel like suits generally stay looking "like new" since they get hardly any use. And they aren't cheap. I'm sure he'll get a lot more use out of the laptop.
Love all the colourful dresses.
It's crazy because we only celebrate with half of our family since Phil's family lives in Maryland and Pennsylvania and Virginia, and he has 5 siblings too, and our kids have 17 first cousins on that side! While it would be so nice to have everyone together from both sides for an event (maybe our kids' weddings?) we would certainly have to rent out a hall to fit everyone. Big family problems ;)
DeleteLove the photos. What a handsome guy. My kids have had similar thoughts about the after party, which is mandatory. I understand the reasoning, but dang- everyone is too tired to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad they are so tired considering how much time and money is poured into it. I was a little shocked they let them drive home at 4:30 am because isn't that more dangerous after having stayed up all night than it would have been to drive home straight after the prom? I guess it's the fact that they wouldn't drive home straight after the prom. No great solution really!
DeleteHe looks so handsome!! So where I grew up we didn't have a post prom, we had a lock-in post graduation. So graduation was from like 2:00-4:00 and then doors opened at like 9:00 for the lock-in but doors locked at 10:00. And then it ended with a big pancake breakfast at like 6:00 am. That worked really well. I LOVE the repurposed graduation sign. I genuinely chuckled! Remember to get the soft tissues for this week!!
ReplyDeleteHe's so darn handsome. I love that you nudged him to use an old suit, but also, MONEY. Thanks Mom! The girls look so great in all those brightly colored dresses, with the handsome guys behind them. How sweet that all these kids have grown up together. Emma looks gorgeous in that yellow dress too. I like that idea of all the students showing themselves on stage before the big night; very sweet.
